a little bit of history

Louis Leon Pajot operated his family's postal company from the Hotel de Villeroy / Cremerie de Paris in Paris, rue des Déchargeurs
With it's roots going back to 1671
Phone Book of the World might in some way
be one of the oldest Telecom Company.

Cybercafe de Paris around 1995
The directory was invented
right at the switch from 1999 to 2000 ...
This happened at the Cybercafe de Paris,
located at Cremerie de Paris N°1 / Hôtel de Villeroy
once the very first Internet Cafe in France.

Buzz Aldrin on the Moon, photo by Neil Armstrong july 1969
At the time already connected Americans
travelling to Paris
were desperate to a find a web connection.
Without realizing it the people from the cafe
run into the most fascinating tech pioneers.

Most of them were young, very young
nobody noticed who they were
or who they were going to become.

Some were already a little older,
one was on the first flight to the moon.

Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 astronaute and Ben Solms, editor of the Phone Book of the World walking around the parc of Versailles, 2005

But all what happened between 1671
and that moment is a long long story ...
one event directly
resulting in another

making it possible, 316 later,
1987, to open a small Phone Boutique,
again 329 years later
to register
2000 January 25 the
Phone Book of the World.com
domain name

and again today
to record the above Videos.

For 3 centuries our house was already a Royal Hotspot in the Kingdom of France ...
Nicolas V de Villeroy, educator of young King Louis XIV, owner of the Hotel de Villeroy / Cremerie de ParisLouis XIV, 3rd Bourbon King of France
1370
to 1671 the building was the residence of the
Villeroy family,
secretatries of State
and pied à terre to some the Bourbons,
Kings of France,
in particular Henri IV and the young Louis XIV.

1671 our house the VB mansion was for sale
as the Villeroys followed the Bourbons
to live at the brand new
Palace of Versailles.

Two entrepreneurs from Tours acquired it:
Leon Pajot et Louis Rouillé.

Telecom Hotspot since 1671

Pajot & Rouillé / Thurn & Taxis Post CoachLa Poste / Hotel de Villeroy / Cremerie de Paris in 1715
Telecom Hotspot since 1671
with the creation of "La Poste",
the "Royal French Postal Services"
operated by the Pajot & Rouillé family,
later French PTT,
today seperated into "La Poste" and "France Telecom".

The company started with Leon Pajot and his friend
Louis Rouillé (1630 - 1694)
Louis Rouillé's father
Pierre Rouillé (1593 - 1657) was already

1675, february 2 the son of Louis Pajot,
Leon II Pajot (1647 - 1708)
married the daugther of Leon Rouillé,
Marie Anne Rouillé.(1659 - 1694)

Their oldest son Louis Leon Pajot
is extremly bright and interested in science.
Educated by the jesuits he spend his childhood with books
and scientists.
Among his friends were numerous Dutch scientists
like Herman Boerhaave.

Louis Leon Pajot operated his family's postal company from the Hotel de Villeroy / Cremerie de Paris in Paris, rue des DéchargeursAnselm Franz von Thurn & Taxis opertad his family's postal operations from the Thurn & Taxis palaces in Brussels and Francfort
Their grandson
Louis Leon Pajot (1678 - 1754)
continued to develop the business.
1708 he became Intendant Général
des Postes et Relais de France, General Postmaster.

He needed the help of Anselm Franz von Thurn & Taxis
another Telecom entrepreneur from Brussels / Francfort.

They were using horses
and post relais to carry mail through Europe.

Post Roads in France around 1730, with headquaters of the Pajot & Rouillé and the Thurn & Taxis post
The Pajot & Rouillé family owned 700 post relais,
the most southern ones were located in Venice and Rome.
The Thurn & Taxis many more all over central Europe,
mainly in the different states of Germany,
the Spanish Netherlands, Bohemia, Austria and Italy.

Thurn & Taxis Palace in Frankfurt
The "heart"
of these early Telecom companies
were the Hotel de Villeroy / Cremerie de Paris in Paris
and the Thurn & Taxis Palaces in Brussels and Francfort.

The French King Louis XV became jealous
of the succes of "La Poste".
He had no control over the Thurn & Taxis
but being a King with absolute powers in France
he did over
the Pajot et Rouillé family.

1738 mai 21 in the early morning
his minister of finance, the cardinal Fleury,
made an end to the postal empire.
Police officers stopped the postal operations
which the king from now on
gave to the Grimod et Thiroux brothers.

Louis Leon Pajot continued his life as an inventor
of scientific instruments that impressed
many important people of the time including his friend
Tsar Peter the Grand of Russia.

With the French Revolution trace of the
Pajot & Rouillé family ceased.
Over the time nobody remembered
the historic telecom company
exept of the Thurn & Taxis
who were shocked how overnight
a four generation old postal company
could disappear ...

And shomehow the destiny of our place
was to continue as a Telecom Hotspot.
The Spirit of Telecommunications
that must remained in the walls,
only needed to be reactivated ...

Cremerie de Paris
Today the Cremerie de Paris
part of the Postal Mansion,
and home of the Phone Book of the World
turned into an iconic
Pop Up Store location ...

and in the memory
